Visitor Guideline

Visitors are Welcome!

The Sibley Music Library is a private library serving the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. In addition to University of Rochester students, faculty, and staff, music educators, music students from area colleges, and visiting researchers are welcome to register at the circulation desk as guest users of this library. Students under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Sibley Music Library does not make its computers available to the public for Internet access. Please do not enter the library with the expectation of using computers for web surfing or email. Computers in this facility are for use by University of Rochester students, faculty, and staff, as well as guest users in need of the music resources of this library. The Rochester Public Library is only a short distance from Eastman, and is a more appropriate venue for non-music research and internet usage.

Circulation Privileges

Music educators and musicians within a 50-mile radius of Rochester may apply for a Community Borrower’s Card. This card allows those users to gain access to Sibley to borrow circulating scores and books for a period of four weeks. Application may be made in person with the Access Services Supervisor. If accepted, the applicant will be required to pay $50 (payable to the Sibley Music Library), plus a $10 processing fee at the UR ID Office. Eastman Alumni may pick up an alumni card at the Susan B. Anthony building on the University of Rochester campus that will grant them the same borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges are also granted to individuals with RRLC Access cards.

Computer and Audio/Video Equipment Privileges

Audio and video equipment, computers, printers, and related equipment for word processing, multimedia development, surfing of the Internet, and other personal computing tasks are available only to University of Rochester students, faculty, and staff, and guest users in need of the music resources of this library.

Electronic Resources

Many library resources are now available in electronic formats. These databases are licensed for the use of University students, faculty, and staff. Use of selected resources by guest users in need of the music resources of this library is permitted. If you choose to use electronic databases, please respect our need to give University students the highest priority of access through our public-use computers.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan services are limited to current Eastman School of Music students, faculty, and staff.
