Latest ECMS updates – COVID changes to Safety Policy
January 7, 2022Dear Students and Families,
Yesterday (Wednesday, January 5) we sent you a message with COVID outbreak related changes to our safety policies. Since that time, the university has announced further safety requirements.
Please read the following message that contains updated policies for studying at Eastman Community Music School, which replace those communicated yesterday.
- Effective immediately until January 31, all activities (lessons, classes, ensembles) will move online only. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation, and communicate any changes in a timely manner.
- All recitals (on and off campus) are postponed.
- The office will stay open in a limited capacity until Friday, January 14 with most staff working remotely. Following that date we will continue to work remotely, at least through Monday, January 31.
The vaccination policy changes communicated yesterday are no longer necessary, as this month’s activities will take place online only. However, we strongly encourage all eligible students to take advantage of vaccination as a measure to help keep our community safe and healthy. Our current vaccination policy requires students in ensembles and those over 18 to be fully vaccinated in order to attend in-person lessons and rehearsals. This policy is subject to change, and depending on the progression of infection rates, may need to expand to younger students in the future.
We rely on the expert guidance of University of Rochester epidemiologists and public health experts, as well as county health officials, as we make our decisions. Our primary goal has been to keep our community as safe as possible, while at the same time fulfilling our mission.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience and hope that this updated measures will contribute to preserving the health of our community.
Sincerely,
ECMS Office
