Sam Wood
STUDENT PROFILE
Samuel Wood is a 20-year-old horn player from Fort Worth, TX, currently attending the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. Sam is a student of Peter Kurau (Eastman Horn Professor) and Gerald Wood (Principal Horn of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra). Before moving to Rochester, Sam was a multi-year Texas All-State musician. He also served as the principal horn of the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra for two years. Sam has won many awards and honors including The Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Outstanding Soloist 2022, a guest performer at the 2018 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, and the Frederick Fennel Scholar award at the Interlochen Arts Camp. Sam has performed as principal with several groups including the Idyllwild Symphony Orchestra, World Youth Wind Symphony at Interlochen Arts Camp, the New England Conservatory Summer Orchestra Intensive, and many others. In 2023 Sam Played Principal Horn for Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz with the National Youth Orchestra – USA for their 2023 tour. Sam is also an Eagle Scout and enjoys participating in local service and educational outreach programs.
