Benjamin Kjell
Benjamin Kjell is a doctoral student in organ performance and literature at Eastman School of Music in the studio of Nathan Laube. He received a bachelor’s degree in church music (2018) and a master’s degree in organ and related keyboard instruments (2021) at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, where he studied organ and clavichord performance with Joel Speerstra and improvisation for Karin Nelson. In Gothenburg, he also studied with Hans Davidsson at Ljungskile Folkhögskola. In addition to his studies in organ and sacred music, Benjamin has had experience with a broad range of genres, including jazz and heavy metal, and studied jazz piano at Hjo folkhögskola 2013-2015. He has also worked as an apprentice in the workshop of organ builder Karl Nelson in Lidköping. At the International Florence Price Festival 2020 he held a digital lecture-recital about his transcription for organ of Florence Price’s Third Symphony, which was the topic of his master’s project in Gothenburg. In 2020, he also received the GIOA Scholarship Award from the Gothenburg International Organ Academy for a project on the Five Chorale Preludes by Ethel Smyth.
