Rob Hamilton

STUDENT PROFILE
Rob Hamilton is a fifth-year PhD student in Music Theory. His research focuses on twentieth-century tonal music, especially with an approach that blends schema theory with theories of scale and mode. He presented on the music of Herbert Howells at SMT New Orleans in 2022, on Olivier Messiaen at Music Theory Midwest in 2023, and will present at SMT Denver this fall. He currently serves as a co-editor of Intégral.
A passionate and engaging teacher, Rob earned Eastman’s Teaching Assistant Prize in 2023. His work in the classroom has roots in his background as a music director at various churches, including Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal. He continues to stay active in the church music world as an organist and tenor.
Originally from Toronto, Rob holds a BMus in organ performance from McGill University and an MA in Music Theory from Eastman. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, board games, and never reaching diamond in League of Legends.
