STUDENT PROFILE
Jenny Choo is currently pursuing the DMA in Accompanying and Chamber Music at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Dr. Andrew Harley. She holds graduate assistantships in Studio Accompanying and Opera, and was also a member of the coaching staff at SUNY Geneseo. Prior to her studies at Eastman, she held the position as Collaborative Pianist and Coordinator of Accompanying at her alma mater, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where she was the Music Director for their main stage productions.
Jenny is the recipient of the Barbara M. H. Koeng Award for Vocal Accompanying, an Excellence in Accompanying Award, as well as gaining 2nd Prize at the 2021 Kneisel Lieder Competition. Recent projects include Hänsel und Gretel for Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Così fan tutte for Finger Lakes Opera, where she was a Tomita Young Artist. In June 2022, she studied with Graham Johnson and Martin Katz at Songfest, and in September was a finalist at the Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition in London.
In 2023, Jenny served as principal pianist for the American premier of the opera, Missing – a work centered on the 4,000 missing Indigenous women in Canada by Marie Clements and Brian Current, staged by Anchorage Opera. Later that year, she served as Vocal Coach at the Fletcher Opera Institute University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In 2024, she was a member of the music staff at Sarasota Opera, in addition to returning to the Aspen Music Festival as an Opera Coaching Fellow. In Fall 2024, Jenny joined the music staff at Houston Grand Opera as Resident Studio Pianist.
