STUDENT PROFILE
Isaac Boone is a saxophonist, music educator, and composer originally from Hanover, IN. He is currently a graduate student and teaching assistant at the Eastman School of Music, where he is pursuing his Master of Music in Saxophone Performance and Literature under Chien-Kwan Lin. Recently, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance and Music Education with Woodwind Program Honors at Northwestern University, where he studied with Taimur Sullivan.
Isaac maintains an active concert schedule as a soloist and as soprano saxophonist in Masso Quartet, which has brought him to two dozen cities in eleven states. As a soloist, Isaac regularly presents recitals across the Midwest and has garnered awards in national music competitions, such as Winner of the 2024 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition and 1st Prize in Classical Saxophone of the 2023 Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition. As a chamber musician, much of Isaac’s work focuses on legibility in New Music through increased audience interaction and subversive audiovisual experiences. With Masso, he has commissioned and premiered over a dozen original works for saxophone quartet, with performances reaching concert halls, schools, universities, libraries, and art galleries across the US, as well as national conferences such as the 2024 Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium and the 2024 NASA Biennial Conference. Masso was awarded 3rd Prize in the 2022 NASA Quartet Competition, was named finalist for the 2023 Fletcher Prize for Outstanding Research (recognizing their study of the legibility of New Music), and held the Emerging Artist Fellowship at the 2023 Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival.
Outside of performing, Isaac is an arranger and composer, primarily writing for a variety of saxophone ensembles. Recent premieres include “With My Head In The Clouds” with the Northwestern University Saxophone Ensemble at Galvin Hall in Evanston, IL; “Every Jump Begins With A Leap” with Simian Duo at the 2024 NASA Biennial Conference in Stillwater, OK; and “Fractals” with Lati2de Duo in Ann Arbor, MI.
Finally, Isaac has served as a music teacher for six years in a variety of roles, such as a private saxophone instructor, keyboard instructor with Northwestern’s Academy of Music and Arts for Special Education, marching and woodwind instructor, and student teacher in high school and middle school band classes. He looks forward to pursuing a career in K-12 or higher education following his graduate studies in saxophone performance.
