The Eastman School of Music has announced the relocation of fall concerts and events scheduled for the School’s Kilbourn Hall. Planning is underway for new venues, and new locations will be noted online. Concert patrons should check calendars on the web sites of the Eastman School and University of Rochester for new locations.
Dean Douglas Lowry’s message to faculty and staff follows:
Eastman’s Kilbourn Hall will be closed for the fall 2012 semester. We are immediately implementing an abatement plan for asbestos in the space above the ceiling. Two independent tests have concluded that there has not been, nor is there at this time, any risk for faculty, staff, students and patrons.
Aside from commencing the abatement project, we will soon inventory available alternative spaces with appropriate Eastman staff and faculty.
Given the complexity of this reassignment process, we will ask everyone’s forbearance. This is a school-wide issue that will require flexibility on all fronts, especially given the central importance that Kilbourn holds for Eastman’s very important concert life. We will keep concert patrons apprised of venue changes through the calendars on the Eastman and University of Rochester web sites.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
