After three rounds of intense competition, five finalists were selected Thursday night, Aug. 5, from the field of 22 musical virtuosos in the 2010 Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition:
Yen-Yu Chen, 16, Taiwan
Joseph Mohan, 17, Akron, N.Y.
Chang-Yong Shin, 16, Korea
Rieko Tsuchida, 15, Japan
Allen Yuan, 17, Farmington Hills, Mich.
For the first time in the history of the competition, the finalists will perform the final round — a movement of a concerto — with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, under Eastman School of Music conductor Neil Varon. The final round will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 7, in the Hochstein School of Music Performance Hall. The top prizes will be announced and awarded afterward, at approximately 10 p.m.
