For the second year, Eastman School of Music is participating in the national food drive “Orchestras Feeding America,” and will be collecting food and monetary donations from Monday, March 15, through Wednesday, March 31. Collection bins will be located in the Main Hall, Miller Center, Messinger Hall, and the Student Living Center, with all donations going to Foodlink Rochester.
At Eastman, the food drive coincides with several events during the two-week period, including the Women in Music Festival March 22 through 26 and an annual Bake-Off on March 25, providing numerous opportunities for staff, faculty, students, and visitors to bring and drop off donations.
Donations of the following items are being accepted: dry and canned soup, rice, powdered or canned milk, macaroni and cheese, cereal, beans, canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, canned meats, stew, pasta, fruit juices, and sip-sized juices.
Items that cannot be accepted are items in glass jars or bottles, unlabeled or dented cans, any open or resealed packaging, perishable or homemade foods, expired products, clothing, diapers, or other non-food items.
Monetary donations can be made on the Foodlink website (http://www.foodlinkny.org/) or brought to the Eastman School Bake-off event from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in 220 Miller Center.
“Orchestras Feeding America” is a collaboration of the League of American Orchestras and Feeding America. More than 250 organizations across the United States participated in last year’s drive, collecting more than 200,000 pounds of food for local communities.
