Again this summer, singers of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in Eastman School of Music’s “Eastman Summer Sings,” a popular series of choral music reading sessions. Held Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall beginning July 7, each program features one choral masterwork. Scores are provided at the door.
Since William Weinert, Eastman’s director of choral activities, founded the community program in 1995, hundreds of Rochesterians have enjoyed the relaxed music-making experience. He will conduct the first two sessions and guest conductors Deanna Joseph and Michael Ruhling will lead the other sessions. The Rochester Institute of Technology Summer Orchestra will join the Summer Sings event for two sessions this year as well.
“Eastman Summer Sings” is free, although a $5 donation is suggested, and refreshments are provided. The program offers the community a chance to perform or enjoy great music with Eastman faculty and students and outstanding soloists from the Rochester community. The tradition continues this year with the following:
July 7: Brahms, Requiem; Seyoung Jeong, soprano, Evan Jones, baritone, Paul Frolick, piano, William Weinert, conductor.
July 14: Haydn, Theresien Mass and Te Deum; Kweol Lee, soprano, Lauren Iezzi, mezzo, Dennis Rosenbaum, tenor, Daniel Pickins-Jones, bass, William Weinert, conductor, with the RIT Summer Orchestra.
