Three organists from the Eastman School of Music will wrap up the 2007-2008 season of Italian Baroque Organ Showcase Concerts at the Memorial Art Gallery on Sunday, May 18.
Ryan Enright, Erica Johnson, and Robert Kwan will perform music by Frescobaldi, Poglietti, Sweelinck, and J.S. Bach for the monthly recital, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Gallery’s Fountain Court.
Enright took first prizes in the Concours d’Orgue de Québec in 2004 and the RCCO (Royal Canadian College of Organists) National Organ Playing Competition in 2007. He will be participating in the Dublin International Organ Competition this summer.
Johnson earned second prize in the 2002 Norddeutsche Rundfunk International Organ Competition and received the 2004 International Arp Schnitger Prize for her experience on organs in the German cities of Basedow, Stade, and Norden.
Kwan, who started playing the organ at the age of 16, was the organ scholar at the Church of St. John the Divine in Victoria from 1997 to 2000 and spent the following year as the organ scholar in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Tickets to the Italian Baroque Organ Showcase Concert are $12 for the general public and $8 for students. They are available at the door one hour before the concert and are payable by cash or check.
Enright is currently a doctoral student; Johnson and Kwan will receive their doctoral degrees on May 17. The monthly series of Organ Showcase Concerts will resume in September. More information on concerts is available online at www.esm.rochester.edu/concerts.
The Italian Baroque Organ was built around 1770 in central Italy. Restored and installed in 2005 at the Memorial Art Gallery, the instrument is the only one of its kind in North America.
