Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter, winner of the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award, will close this season’s Kilbourn Concert Series at the Eastman School of Music with a performance at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8.
Born in Buenos Aires in 1973, Fliter began playing public recitals at the age of 11 and made her professional orchestra debut at the Teatro Colon at 16. Already the winner of several Argentine competitions, she went on to win first prizes at the Cantu International Competition and the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Italy and in 2000 was awarded the silver medal at the Frederic Chopin Competition in Warsaw.
Fliter has been noted for her skill, sensitivity, and elegance in concerts across the globe, performing in such cities as Amsterdam, Milan, St. Petersburg, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. In January 2006, Fliter was announced as the recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award. One of today’s most significant honors for pianists, the award is given every four years to a pianist of truly exceptional quality, regardless of age or nationality.
As a featured soloist on a tour with the Warsaw Philharmonic, Fliter made her United States debut in 2002. Within two months of winning the 2006 Gilmore Artist award, she made her American orchestra debut with the Atlanta Symphony under Donald Runnicles and, filling in for her compatriot and mentor Martha Argerich, her Los Angeles Philharmonic debut under Charles Dutoit.
Tickets to Fliter’s recital are $8 to $18 (discount with UR ID). They are available at the Rochester Philharmonic Box Office, 108 East Ave.; by phone (585) 454-2100; or online at esm.rochester.edu/concerts.
