The internationally acclaimed Daedalus Quartet will perform works by Mozart, Shostakovich, and Brahms at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in Kilbourn Hall in the final concert of this season’s Eastman-Ranlet Series at the Eastman School of Music.
The ensemble, named for the mythical Greek inventor and artist who devised wings enabling him to fly, was founded in the summer of 2000. One year later, the Daedalus Quartet won the Grand Prize of the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Since then, the Quartet has performed at major venues throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan.
The Daedalus Quartet was appointed by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center as the Chamber Music Society Two quartet for two seasons, and served as Columbia University’s quartet-in-residence from 2005 to 2007. Members of the quartet are brother and sister violinists Kyu-Young Kim and Min-Young Kim, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, and violist Jessica Thompson.
The Quartet’s program in Kilbourn Hall features Mozart’s “String Quartet K. 465, ‘Dissonance’;” Shostakovich’s “String Quartet No. 3;” and Brahms’s “String Quartet, Op. 51, No 2.” Tickets are $18, $12, and $8 (discount with UR ID) and are available at the Rochester Philharmonic Box Office, 108 East Ave.; by phone (585) 454-2100; or online at esm.rochester.edu/concerts.
