Hear the sounds of the only full-size Italian Baroque organ in North America this Sunday, January 21, when guest organist Magnus Kjellson performs a recital at the Memorial Art Gallery.
A former student of Eastman Organ Professor Hans Davidsson, Magnus Kjellson has toured extensively in Europe as a distinguished performer, educator, and lecturer. Among other notable activities, Kjellson is the founder, artistic director and conductor of Göteborg Baroque, a widely acclaimed ensemble of thirty musicians that specialize in Swedish, German, and Italian seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music. This concert, which will feature organ works from five centuries, marks Kjellson’s American debut.
Restored and installed in 2005 at the Memorial Art Gallery, the organ is located in the Gallery’s Herdle Fountain Court and is surrounded by works of art from the Baroque period.
The recital begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last one hour. The cost of tickets is $12 (students, $8). Tickets are available at the door and can be purchased by cash or check. Seating is limited.
