Eastman Wind Ensemble

Appearing with the Eastman Wind Ensemble Wednesday, November 8 will be several award winning Eastman students including Bobby Mitchell on piano. A senior, Mitchell has won several prestigious piano competitions. Most notably, he was the first recipient of the William Garrison Piano Competition hosted by the American Liszt Society in 2005. Mitchell will perform Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments.
Also appearing will be Eastman’s ViM Saxophone Quartet, winners of the 2006 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Members are seniors Kristin Rarick, Michael Matlock, Dimitrios Kostaras, and Richard Miserendino. The quartet will perform Urban Requiem by Michael Colgrass.
The Wind Ensemble will also perform Joseph Schwantner’s from a dark millennium.
Eastman Philharmonia

Eastman Theatre – 8 p.m.
On Friday, November 10, the Eastman Philharmonia will perform a new work by Eastman PhD student Christopher Winders. Winders’ composition, entitled Adagio, was selected (for performance) last spring by members of Eastman’s Composition and Conducting and Ensembles departments from among works submitted by several other composition students.
In addition to Winders’ Adagio, the Philharmonia will perform Mendelssohn’s Overture to Ruy Blas and Schumann’s Symphony no. 1.
Both concerts are free and open to the public.
