Eastman School of Music jazz students are once again turning their annual Eastman Jazz Showcase set for Thursday, September 28 into a benefit for New Orleans jazz musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina. The students are asking for a suggested donation of $5. Eastman students raised $1,154 at last year’s event. Donations will again be sent to the Jazz Foundation of America.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, its Jazz Musician’s Emergency Fund a ssisted more than 1,100 New Orleans musicians displaced by flooding, providing them with housing assistance and work opportunities in schools and nursing homes in eight states
The Eastman Jazz Showcase is coordinated by Jazz Studies Department chair Harold Danko and features the following Eastman groups: Eastman Jazz Ensemble (Bill Dobbins, Director), New Jazz Ensemble (Dave Rivello, Director), Jazz Lab Band (Russell Scarbrough and Jeff Ostroski, Directors) and seven Jazz Performance Workshops (Jeff Campbell, Alex Graham, Clarence Hines, Clay Jenkins and Dariusz Terefenko, Directors).
