Three doctors with the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center will highlight “Keys for a Cure,” a Saturday, Feb. 5, benefit piano recital at the Eastman School of Music.
Pianists George Abraham, M.D., and Eugene Toy, M.D., and vocalist Michelle Shayne, M.D., will perform during the 8 p.m. performance at Kilbourn Hall, 26 Gibbs St., a benefit for the Wilmot Cancer Center and the Eastman Piano Fund. Several Eastman student pianists also highlight the program.
Toy will perform Ballade No. 4 by Chopin. He is an OB/GYN oncologist and joined the University of Rochester faculty after studying piano at The Juilliard School and medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Shayne, a breast oncologist, will perform “Habanera” from the opera Carmen and a work from Hansel and Gretel, accompanied by Abraham on the piano. Shayne is the newest member of the Wilmot Cancer Center’s Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program. She studied opera at Eastman and then at the Juilliard School, before making a career transition to medicine.
She graduated from UR School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1998 and completed her residency at Strong Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Abraham is former director of the Wilmot Cancer Center and an accomplished pianist.
