ROCHESTER, NY The Eastman Horn Choir, under the direction of Peter Kurau, associate professor of horn at the Eastman School of Music, will present its annual St. Huberts Day concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 4, in Eastman Theatre (60 Gibbs St.). St. Hubert, whose feast day is November 3, is the patron saint of ethical hunting. The concert is free and open to the public.
Capturing the call of the horn, the concert features music of the hunt for horn ensemble, chamber groups, and solo horn. Special guests include the RPO/Eastman horn quartet, featuring Dietrich Hemann, acting RPO principal horn; Jennifer Burch, second horn; Elizabeth Porter, senior horn performance major at Eastman and candidate for the Schools Performers Certificate, and Kurau. The Rondo movements of the four Mozart horn concerti also will be performed, along with ensemble works by Wagner, Rossini, Krol, Cheetham, and Steigler. Student horn chamber groups also will perform works by Bozza, LeClair, and McAlister.
The Eastman Horn Choir, a distinguished part of the horn ensemble tradition, recently received an invitation to present two concerts at the prestigious 2002 International Horn Festival in Lahti, Finland.
