ROCHESTER, NY Felice Kuan, a 16-year-old from Menands, NY, was named the first-place winner last night in the Eastman School of Musics Fourth Annual Young Artists International Piano Competition. This competition for students ages 14-18 is part of Eastmans Summer Piano Festival, and attracted 27 competitors from around the world.
As top winner, Kuan receives a $10,000 annual scholarship to Eastman (upon satisfying all admission requirements) and a $4,000 cash prize. The second-place winner was Elizabeth Roe, 18, from Glenview, IL, who receives a $1,500 cash prize. Third-place winner Esther Park, 15, of Little Ferry, NJ, receives a $500 cash prize.
The three winners of the competition will present a special gala concert tomorrow night, Friday, July 21, in Eastman Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which has attracted hundreds of people in past years, is free and open to the public.
