Marrowstone Summer Music Festival
An institution since 1943, Marrowstone Music Festival is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere orchestral training program. Marrowstone is presented by the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and is hosted by Western Washington University. Located in picturesque Bellingham, overlooking the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains, the WWU campus offers a uniquely intimate environment for Marrowstone’s Pre-College, University, and Fellowship divisions.
True to its 69-year history, Marrowstone remains an orchestral training experience. Marrowstone’s three orchestras perform weekly under the direction of world class conductors and artist-faculty. The festival also includes chamber music studies and performance, master classes, and private instruction.
Marrowstone students have the opportunity to study with internationally acclaimed performers and artist-teachers from such institutions as the Chicago Symphony, the Zurich Opera Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, the University of Michigan, the University of Texas-Austin, the Empire Brass, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Boasting a 69 year legacy of training the next generation of outstanding artists, Marrowstone graduates and alumni play in major orchestras and opera companies across the United States, including those of Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and New York, as well as internationally in London, Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Tokyo, and many others.
