Dr. Bebe and Prof. Mc Clowry will discuss ways of developing and exploring diverse sets of musical and non-musical skills to make yourself more eligible for these type of teaching positions. Both specific professional steps and broad general concepts will be addressed and open for discussion from the online participants.
David Bebe
David Bebe is an Assistant Professor of Music at the College of Saint Rose (Albany, NY) where he conducts the Saint Rose Orchestra, serves as the String Faculty Coordinator, and teaches cello, advanced theory, advanced ear-trainging, string techniques, chamber music, and string repertoire classes. As a cellist, he performs chamber music regularly with the Saint Rose Camerata and has been a featured soloist and chamber musician with festivals throughout the United States. In addition to the Saint Rose Orchestra, David has conducted the Broward Symphony Orchestra, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, and has guest conducted numerous youth orchestras including the Empire State Youth Orchestra in Albany, NY.
A dedicated pedagogue, he has served on the faculty for the Indiana University String Academy, String Academy of Wisconsin, Young Musicians and Artists program (OR), and the Gem State String Boot Camp (ID). This past summer David was invited to participate as a cellist in the inaugural season of the Artosphere Festival Orchestra (AR), a professional orchestra dedicated to promoting classical music and environmental sustainability. He was also selected to be one of eight participants in the New England Conservatory’s conducting workshop and taught at the Saint Rose Summer Youth Music camp, Op. 3. David received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from Indiana University and completed his doctorate at the University of Miami.
Sean McClowry
Sean McClowry is a music producer, songwriter, and composer who has recently joined the faculty at the College of Saint Rose as Assistant Professor of Music Industry Studies. He will soon be completing his PhD in Composition from Princeton University this Fall. Sean is active in both popular and classical music idioms as a performer and producer of recordings of new music. He is currently working on a CD for American Modern Recordings that will be released in 2012 featuring his music composed for double bass.
His dissertation is titled, The Song of the Convert: Religious Conversion and its Impact on the Music of Liszt, Pärt, and Coltrane. His academic interests include multi-instrumentalism, finding progressive models for producing and distributing commercial art, and fostering new methods for collaborative studio recording. He received his MM in performance from the Yale School of Music and his BM in Composition from Peabody Conservatory. In 2007 he was selected as a Harvey Fellow and he now sits on the advisory board.
