The New Eastman Evolution: Festival Week
This week, December 6-12, the Eastman School of Music is celebrating the completion of its multi-year construction project and the opening of the Eastman East Wing. The Eastman East Wing features new rehearsal and teaching spaces, a box office, theatre gift shop, the Wolk Atrium and a beautiful glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly titled “Blue and Gold Chandelier”, and a state-of-the-art performance venue- Hatch Recital Hall.
Some of the featured ensembles performing this week as part of the celebration include the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Wind Orchestra, New Jazz Ensemble, Musica Nova, Repertory Chorus and Women’s Singers, Philharmonia, Eastman-Rochester Chorus, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. There will even be a Chamber Music Marathon in Hatch Recital Hall including Eastman students, faculty members, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra musicians on Sunday, December 12 from noon until 9:00PM.
The horns around here are especially excited about an Internet Masterclass with the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo with hornist Frøydis Ree Wekre. On Tuesday, December 7 at noon, voice and horn students and faculty from the Eastman School of Music will join faculty and students from the Norwegian Academy of Music for performances, teaching, and audience Q & A in Hatch Recital Hall.
There will be regularly scheduled tours to showcase the new Eastman East Wing and Wolk Atrium as well as the performing spaces from Kodak Hall to Hatch Recital Hall.
