Wellness at Eastman is a monthly seminar series from Eastman Performing Arts Medicine (EPAM) featuring artists and clinicians speaking to physical and mental wellness for performing artists, inspired by the Healthy Conservatoires movement in Europe.
The next Wellness at Eastman seminar will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 6 p.m: Musicians’ Hearing Health Q&A: Evaluations, Disorders, and Hearing Protection presented by Dr. Brendan Fitzgerald, Clinical Audiologist at the URMC Audiology Center.
Join Brendan Fitzgerald, MM, AuD, as he answers common questions musicians bring to the clinic about hearing health, establishing care with an audiologist, and how to make use of hearing protection for practice, rehearsal, and performance. Whether you have questions about tinnitus or are thinking about custom hearing protection, this session will lay the groundwork for engaging with your hearing in an informed way.
Brendan P. Fitzgerald, MM, AuD, CCC-A completed his Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2020 with an externship at the Cleveland Clinic (2019-20). As a doctoral student, he organized and presented the University at Buffalo Hearing Health Lecture Series and provided care to patients in the Cleveland Clinic Tinnitus Management Clinic, under the direction of Sharon Sandridge, PhD. His clinical and research interests include tinnitus, hearing protection, and hearing loss prevention, particularly in musicians, along with balance assessment.
Brendan holds a Master of Music degree in Conducting Performance from the State University of New York at Buffalo (2011). Before his career in audiology, he taught music in public and private schools and presented workshops in improvisation, composition, and performance at high schools and universities throughout the northeastern United States. He currently serves as Director of the contemporary chamber music ensemble Wooden Cities, based in Buffalo, NY.
