When Zinman conducts the Eastman Philharmonia on Friday, April 12, at Kodak Hall, he’ll be joined by violin sensation Joshua Bell for Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, a romantic and virtuosic showpiece. Felix Mendelssohn’s tuneful overture “The Hebrides” and Robert Schumann’s robust Symphony No. 2 are also on the program. The Friday concert is the culmination of Zinman’s two-year tenure as Distinguished Visiting Artist at the Eastman School of Music, where he has served as a mentor to conducting students .
Saxophonist Billy Harper comes to Eastman

Eastman Opera Theatre will present Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” April 4-7 in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in Rochester.
“It’s a story about a man who uses his privilege, his power, and his wealth to get away with a lot of terrible behavior,” said Carr. “I think the challenge for me as a stage director is to bring it to life in a way that honors the original intention, but also asks our audience – how does this apply to our lives today? So we’re playing with that in our physical presentation of the piece.”

Alarm Will Sound officially launched 19 years ago in 2001, a group of recent graduates from the Eastman School. The group’s inaugural concert featured the music of Steve Reich in New York City at the Miller Theater, and followed up with other single-composer concerts. … The Eastman School provided some support in the beginning, and the group won its first grant around its third year, incorporating as a nonprofit in 2004.
