Bowdoin International Music Festival
In their first two seasons as co-artistic directors of the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick, brothers Phillip and David Ying have made only one major change in terms of performance format and content, at least from the concertgoer’s perspective.
The Yings’ own quartet will lead off on July 4. Formed in Chicago, the Ying Quartet is currently resident at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and maintains a very busy globetrotting schedule.
Organ more than a pipe dream at Hurricane church

Another performer confirmed is for the classical concert at 3 p.m. on March 26, 2017. Nathan Laube is scheduled for this performance.
“Nathan is one of the younger, up-and-coming stars for the organ,” Gatewood said.
Laube, who travels the world performing, is an assistant professor of organ at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Laube holds a master’s degree in organ from Musikhochschule in Stuttgart, Germany. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
“That’s really one of the top schools for music,” Gatewood said.
Gatewood said Laube studied under one of “the really great organists of today” – Alan Morrison.

Nussbaum and Eastman School of Music grad Gary Versace on Hammond B-3 organ were the backbone of the John Abercrombie Organ Trio at Montage. It’s three guys who look like jazz pros, and they delivered a jazz experience. That big Leslie cabinet speaker that goes with the Hammond is as jazz as it gets. The music is like riding in a fine convertible that eases into downtown traffic, picking up speed at the sights and sounds of the city.

Baker and Jacobs each have strong ties to the Rochester area. Baker is an acting instructor and dramatic coach at the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music. Jacobs studied at Nazareth College and the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music.
