Jack Langerak is an Artist Educator and Arts-in-Education (AIE) consultant providing leadership to a broad range of AIE particulars including: arts partnerships residency projects, strategic planning, professional development, assessment and evaluation, grant-writing, networking, and other areas of this growing field.  Jack, a retired English and Theatre teacher, was the primary force behind Penfield High School’s award-winning drama program for twenty-eight years. For the last five of those years he also served as the Arts-In-Education Coordinator for the Penfield School District. A past President of the Board of Young Audiences of Rochester, Jack, upon his retirement from teaching, served that organization as its Associate Director for four years.  He is a former Director of Rochester’s Aesthetic Education Institute, as well as Rochester’s Wolf Trap, Early Learning Through the Arts Program at Nazareth College.  He served on the Board of the New York State Alliance for Arts Education and is a past president of Partners for Arts Education, an organization providing statewide leadership promoting arts-in-education.  Additional board memberships have included Rochester Community Players, Rochester Opera Factory and Mercury Opera. He is the recipient of the Excellence in the Teaching of Drama Award given by the NYS English Council, the Citibank Teacher of the Year Award, the Smithsonian Exhibition Award for Education, and is a member of the NYS Academy for Teaching and Learning. He was selected by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund as one of thirty-one of the most Outstanding Arts Educators in the country and has been frequently listed in WHO’S WHO AMONG AMERICAN TEACHERS. Jack, an Artist Educator for Geva Theatre Center, is a trained Strategic Foundation Building Retreat Facilitator for the NYS Council on the Arts (NYSCA), a past member of the NYSCA Arts Education and Theatre Panels and Co-Chair of the WNY Regional Leadership Network.  He served on the Board of BOA Editions Ltd, the Rochester based Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning poetry press.  A recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for his study of the epic poems of William Carlos Williams and Charles Olson, his own poetry has been published in Existence, Hot Air, and Rochester Shorts.  Co-producer of Nilaja Sun’s No Child . . . at Geva’s Nextstage (Nov. ‘09) and Syracuse Stage (Sept/Oct ’10 he has directed plays for the Shakespeare Players of Rochester, the Tic/Toc Players, Rochester’s Jewish Community Center, the Theatre Arts Playhouse and Rochester Opera Factory.
