William Chapman Nyaho
ECMS is honored to welcome back Eastman alumnus and world-renowned pianist and teacher William Chapman Nyaho ’84E (MM) to Rochester on September 18th. As a passionate advocate for music of Africa and its diaspora, Chapman Nyaho has worked to bring music by composers of African descent to classical listeners across the world as a solo artist, as a member of the Nyaho/Garcia Duo, and as a teacher. Chapman Nyaho currently serves on the faculty at Pacific Lutheran University, and as summer faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts. He was also recently appointed as the Music Teachers National Association’s first Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Chapman Nyaho’s publications include a five-volume anthology Piano Music of Africa and the African Diaspora published by Oxford University Press
