This is a yearlong course divided into two 17-week semesters.
Stick Talk Ensemble provides a first percussion ensemble experience for young percussionists. Students should be able to read music and must already have started playing at least two of the major areas of percussion study: snare drum/ timpani/ keyboard percussion at NYSSMA performance levels 1-2.
This course requires permission from the instructor for those who are not already learning percussion at ECMS. Please email Kyle Peters at kpeters@esm.rochester.edu.
This ensemble will strive to develop both the musical skills of percussionists through emphasis on music reading, listening to others to build ensemble skills, maintaining strong inner rhythm, and exploring hand drumming techniques. The ensemble’s emphasis is on the process of making music in an ensemble situation and building the personal and group dynamics needed in this musical situation. Applying student’s current skills and having fun with percussion is our basic goal.
There will be a final performance- demonstration for parents, siblings and friends.
