This is a yearlong course divided into two semesters

Instrumentation and Orchestration is a full-year course that explores the characteristics of orchestral instruments and how to combine them effectively within an ensemble. The first semester is dedicated to the study of individual instruments through score excerpts, demonstrations, and short writing exercises. The second semester focuses on scoring for instrumental families and combinations, including strings, winds, brass, and percussion. In addition to weekly exercises, students will complete a short composition or arrangement for orchestra at the end of the course.
