Margaret Henry
Margaret Henry (theory) received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Composition from the University of Western Ontario; from whom she also received the Alumni Gold Medal for coming first in her class. After serving as a faculty member in theory and composition at the University of Western Ontario, Margaret received a PhD in composition from the Eastman School of Music., where her primary teacher was Robert Morris. She played French horn in the faculty woodwind and brass quintets at the University of Western Ontario and also played in the London Ontario Symphony during her stay at the University of Western Ontario. Margaret received a Bell Canada Centennial Scholarship to study electronic music with Pierre Schaefer in Paris, France in 1976 and another Bell Canada Centennial Scholarship toward the pursuit of her PhD at the Eastman School of Music. Other awards include the Bell Canada Centennial Fellowship for the pursuit of her Master of Music at the University of Western Ontario, the Edward Peck Curtis award for graduate student teaching and the Jack L. Frank award for excellence in teaching. Margaret has dedicated most of her adult life to teaching. In her theory teaching, she strives to relate the concepts studied to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the musical literature. Her greatest pleasure is seeing her former theory and composition students being accepted at major colleges of music, including the Eastman School of Music.
