Xu Guo

Hailed by Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as “The future giant among the piano soloists”, Chinese pianist Xu Guo has appeared in concerts in major cities of China, USA, Netherland, Thailand, Croatia, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, etc., including performances at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Weil Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, Prince Mahidol Hall in Bangkok, Concert hall of the Katowice Miasto Ogrodów, Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, etc. Current season will take her to the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Xinghai Concert Hall, Bay Opera in Shenzhen, National Center for Performing Art in Beijing, and concerto tour “Echos of Bach” with China National Center for Performing Art Orchestra, in collaboration with pianist Sa Chen and conductor Yifan Sun; Concerto performance of Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.3 with Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok.

As a soloist, her performance had appeared in Holland National Radio — NPO 4 Classical Chanel, and her album “Xu Guo and Yutong Sun – Hear HER Voice” released by QQ Music was awarded as “the best of Classical – Romantic Period Album” of 2022. Her performance of Mozart Piano Concerto in d minor was claimed by the Bangkok Post as “…sublime reading…with a freshness and scrupulous attention to detail…followed in the tradition of Mitsuko Uchida in sensibility and taste…Xu’s relish of Mozart’s ingenious writing shined through as her fingers rippled upward…”.

Xu is a prize winner of many international piano competitions, among her recent awards are:

  • the 1st Prize of The V Thailand International Piano Competition, with two special prizes “Best Romance Prize” and “Audience Prize” in 2018;
  • The 1st Prize of the 6th Karlovac International Piano Competition, along with the Audience Award in 2019;
  • The 1st Prize of New York International Artist Piano Competition in 2021;
  • The Absolute Award at the 3rd WPTA Finland International Piano Competition in 2021;
  • The 3rd Prize at the 2nd “Sviatoslav Richter” International Piano Competition in 2021.

Currently, Xu is a DMA (Doctor of Musical Art) candidate at Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Alexander Kobrin. She earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees at New England Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Meng-Chieh Liu, HaeSun Paik, and Dang Thai Son. Previously, Xu was admitted to The Music School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music and studied under Hua Chang.

In addition to her performance career, she is also actively engaged in teaching. She has been appointed as a Teaching Assistant in the piano department at the New England Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music. Moreover, her private students have won many awards, including:

  • The 1st Prize of the 8th Ischia International Piano Competition
  • The 1st Place Award of the US International Open Music Competition
  • The 1st Prize of the 5th Vienna-Mozart International Piano Competition (China National Round)
  • The 1st Prize of the Golden Era of Romantic Music International Music Competition
  • The 1st Prize of MMTA’s Bay State Contest
  • The 1st Prize at the Miclot International Music Competition
  • The 1st Prize at “Hummingbird Music Award” China Youth Music Competition
  • The 2nd Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition (Hartford, Connecticut)
  • The 1st Prize at Seattle International Piano Competition
  • The 1st Prize at Ocean Music International Piano Competition
