Jane Vourlekis
Violist Jane Vourlekis dreams to fuse playing, teaching, and administering through a career that engages more people in music, either as audience members or students. For her, the purpose of studying and playing music is about forging connections with people, emotions, history, currents events, nature, and more. As an educator and performer, she hopes that she can empower and motivate people in all aspects of life by approaching music making this way.
Currently, Jane is pursuing a Master of Music in Viola Performance and Literature under the tutelage of Masumi Per Rostad at Eastman School of Music. She previously attended Oberlin College and Conservatory, where she was a student of Peter Slowik and graduated with Pi Kappa Lambda and Phi Beta Kappa honors for her degrees in Viola Performance and Environmental Studies. Prior to discovering the viola, Jane also studied violin at Oberlin, working privately with Sibbi Bernhardsson. Her recent summer music experiences include Harpa International Music Academy, the fellowship program at Credo, and the National Orchestral Institute.
