It’s definitely autumn in Rochester, and this afternoon, November 3, autumn came to Eastman when several faculty members joined for a brief performance of Vernon Duke’s “Autumn in New York” in Howard Hanson Hall: Associate Professor of Musicology Michael Anderson as vocalist; Associate Professor of Jazz and Contemporary Media Dariusz Terefenko at the piano; Associate Professor Mark Kellogg on trombone; Chien-Kwan Lin, Associate Professor of Saxophone, this time playing his original instrument, the violin; and Eastman Wind Ensemble conductor Mark Davis Scatterday on the high-hat cymbal. Michael Anderson originally got a group together three years ago to record a performance for an elderly relative, and a small group of Eastman faculty musicians has met each year — for only about a half hour! – to collaborate on a jazz standard.
