On January 11, Eastman doctoral student Daniel Baer, a student of Douglas Humpherys, won the Marshall Prize at the Grieg Festival Young Artist Competition in Sarasota, Florida. Daniel was one of four finalists selected from the semi-finals round on January 10, who performed short programs of the lesser-known piano music of Edvard Grieg. Along with his $3,000 prize, Daniel gets to live out the dream of many Eastman students: a concert tour, to take place this May throughout Norway, sponsored by the Grieg Society. It is always rewarding to see a fellow student succeed, and in this case succeed at the highest level. Bravo to Daniel!
