Conductor of the world’s great orchestras, composer for the concert hall, opera house, movies, Broadway, and the West End, classical and jazz pianist, writer, and television personality, André Previn is one of the most celebrated, distinctive, and varied contemporary musicians in the world.
Tonight, the Eastman Wind Ensemble will be celebrating Andre Previn and his music. They will be featuring a dazzling line-up of his pieces: Triolet for Brass, Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano, Octet for Eleven, Vocalise for soprano and winds, and finally the world premiere of his first piece for wind ensemble, Music for Wind Orchestra (No Strings Attached), written for the EWE.
Yesterday Andre Previn gave a talk to the Eastman community about his multifaceted career.. He also took time out of his trip to rehearse his new piece with the Wind Ensemble. He was very clear in his expectations in rehearsal. Together with Wind Ensemble director Dr. Mark Scatterday, he made every group develop a sense of what the music was saying.
During tonight’s concert, Previn will also be receiving an honorary doctorate from President Joel Seligman and Dean Jamal Rossi for his lifelong work in music. The concert starts at 8 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall.
