Surprisingly, it has been thirteen years since the morning of the September 11th attacks. All of us remember that day in great detail and how our world has changed as a result of that terrible tragedy.
This year, a young freshman student from Croatia, Marco Pranic, had an idea; to play “The Star-Spangled Banner” in memory of the victims of the September 11th attacks. At 8:20 a.m. on this early Thursday morning, Eastman students, spurred by the efforts of Pranic, gathered in the Cominsky Promenade to do what they do best: play their instruments.
“A friend of a friend was among the victims that we bring back to life on this day. Many of the victims have families who remember them, but I wanted to do this for who may have been a homeless guy, or a poor guy. I wanted them to be remembered on this day too,” said Pranic.
After the moving rendition of our national anthem conducted by Pranic, everyone present (a total of about 50 people) observed a few moments of silence.
