Daniel J. Patrylak BM 54, MM 60

Daniel J. Patrylak, Assistant Director for Academic Affairs at the Eastman School of Music and Director of its Summer Session, is a recognized musician and administrator. A graduate of the Eastman School, he was for several years a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and of the United States Marine Band. As Associate Professor of Trumpet and first trumpet of the Eastman Brass Quintet, he has not only made several recordings and participated in festivals as well as thirty of the fifty States of the Union. In 1973 he was honored by Mu Phi Epsilon as the Musician of the Year.

A conscientious citizen, Daniel Patrylak has been deeply involved in community affairs, directing the Opera Under the Stars and other outstanding festivals. He has served as President of the Board of Directors of the David Hochstein Memorial Music School, and has been a member of the Citizens Advisory Group for the Rochester In-Town Development Study and the University Club of Rochester.

Well versed in the working of the Eastman School of Music in its diverse aspects, he served as Acting Director from July, 1972, to February, 1973, when he was a key figure in maintaining the School’s integrity and excellence.

With the hope that he will long continue to serve the University and the Rochester community and in gratitude for his Herculean efforts on behalf of the Eastman School of Music, the Alumni honor Daniel J. Patrylak with this citation.
