Originally from Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, Benjamin Small is a sophomore at the Eastman School of Music where he studies with Chien-Kwan Lin. Ben’s activities at Eastman include the Eastman Wind Orchestra, Eastman Saxophone Project, and Tuba Mirum. In high school, Ben participated in the Berks County and PMEA District Band, Chorus and Orchestra, PMEA Region Band and Chorus, PMEA All-State Band, and the NAfME All-National Honor Band. In addition, Ben also earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America in May 2023. He designed his Eagle project as an instrument drive for Reading Musical Foundation’s “Operation Replay” program, which refurbished 52 instruments that he collected, and donated them to kids around the county to make the gift of music in their lives attainable.
