Violin – Concertmaster Studies

The following repertoire is specifically for violin applicants to the Advanced Diploma in Concertmaster Studies. Complete information about this program can be found here. Those who are interested in pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree, or the Advanced Diploma in Performance, should return to the audition repertoire requirements for violin.

Pre-Screening Requirements: All applicants to the Advanced Diploma in Concertmaster Studies must upload a preliminary audition recording by December 1st (video required). Excerpts can be found at www.orchestraexcerpts.com. The pre-screening recording must include the following:

• Major Romantic or post-Romantic concerto (ex. Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Prokofiev, Bartok, etc.)

Mvt.1 Exposition and Cadenza

• Tutti Orchestral Excerpts, all Vln 1:

Brahms Symphony no.4, mvt. 4 (mm. 33-80)

Schumann Symphony no.2, Scherzo (beg-Trio I)

Mozart Symphony no.39, mvt.2 (beg-8th measure of rehearsal A)

• Concertmaster Solos:

Strauss Ein Heldenleben (rehearsal 22-32)

Final Audition Requirements:

• Major Romantic or post-Romantic concerto

Mvt.1 complete with Cadenza

• Mozart concerto no. 4 or 5

Mvt.1 and 2 complete with Cadenza

• Tutti Orchestral Excerpts, all Vln 1:

Brahms Symphony no.4, mvt.4 (mm. 33-80)

Schumann Symphony no.2, Scherzo (beg-Trio I)

Mozart Symphony no.39, mvt.2 (beg-8th measure of rehearsal A)
