The Cominsky Promenade, on the second floor of the Eastman School of Music’s main building, is the home of an impressive collection of portraits of former Eastman faculty members, from the earliest years of the school to the present day. Since 2007, the following criteria are followed relative to faculty portraits:
- Retirement following service on the Eastman faculty for a minimum of fifteen-years;
- A photographic portrait (in place of earlier oil paintings);
- We recognize that the portraits of many exemplary musicians, teachers, and colleagues from previous generations are not displayed in this gallery, but we will not revisit the decisions made by previous deans/directors of the School to display, or not display, certain portraits.
- The final decision about inclusion of a faculty portrait rests with the dean.
