Sing at the Eastman School of Music this July in air-conditioned comfort! Singers of all ages and abilities are again invited to take part in “Eastman Summer Sings,” a popular series of choral music reading sessions held Tuesday evenings in July at 7:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall beginning July 6. Each program features one choral masterwork, the scores of which will be provided upon entry at the door.
Since Professor William Weinert, Eastman’s director of choral activities, founded the community program in 1995, hundreds of Rochesterians have enjoyed this fun, relaxed, yet engaging music-making experience. Weinert, Gregory Ristow and conductors from the Eastman Choral Institute will lead this year’s singing sessions.
“Eastman Summer Sings” is free, although a $5 donation is suggested, refreshments are provided, and parking for the events is free in the East End Garage. The program offers the Rochester community the opportunity to perform and enjoy great music with Eastman faculty, Eastman students, and outstanding soloists from the area. This exciting tradition continues this July with the following pieces:
July 6: Mozart, Coronation Mass and Vesper Psalms; Madeline Cain and Natasha Drake, soprano; Clara Nieman, mezzo-soprano; Trevor Strader and Thomas Leighton, tenor; J. J. Hudson, bass; William Weinert, conductor.
July 13: Mendelssohn, Elijah; Seeyoung Jeong, soprano; Clara Nieman, mezzo-soprano; Pablo Bustos, tenor; Malcolm Merriweather, baritone; conductors from the Eastman Choral Institute.
July 20: Handel, Messiah; Gregory Ristow, conductor.
July 27: Brahms, Ein deutsches Requiem; Anna Lenti, soprano; Jordan Wilson, baritone; William Weinert, conductor.
