Julius Huehn (1908-1971), professor of voice and chair of the voice department at the Eastman School of Music from 1952 to 1971, studied at the Carnegie Institute and Juilliard. Mr. Huehn made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1935, and performed regularly with them until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1942, where he was a captain. After his military service, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera for the 1946-47 season. He was noted for his Wagner and Strauss roles, particularly for his portrayals of Orestes in Elektra and Jochaanan in Salome. Mr. Huehn also performed as a soloist with the Rochester Oratorio Society, the Worcester Festival, the Chautauqua Opera Company, the Philadelphia Opera, and the Chicago Grand Opera.
