The Eastman School of Music is hosting this year’s New York State Music Teachers Association Conference Friday, Oct. 16, to Sunday, Oct. 18. The annual event will feature several Eastman faculty members.
Professor of Voice Katherine Ciesinski, mezzo-soprano, will present a recital at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, in Kilbourn Hall. Her program includes the premiere performance of “The Word in Flower,” a work written by Eastman alumna Katherine Hoover. Ciesinski will be joined by faculty members Bonita Boyd, flute; Nicholas Goluses, guitar; and Benton Hess, piano; as well as by her sister, soprano Kristine Ciesinski.
Katherine Ciesinski and Hoover will also conduct master classes. Other Eastman faculty will give lectures, lecture-recitals, or be involved in presentations, including Douglas Humpherys, Jean Barr, Stephen Kennedy, Dave Headlam, and Charles Castleman.
More than 80 participants are expected to attend meetings and presentations during the annual conference. In addition, high school and collegiate students will be competing in voice, piano, and instrumental categories on Friday and Saturday for the Music Teachers National Association and Empire State Competitions.
