Nicole Cabell has been appointed to the Faculty of the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester as Assistant Professor of Voice beginning in the fall of 2020. Cabell earned a Bachelor of Music from Eastman in 2001, and is currently Assistant Professor of Voice at DePaul University.
Jamal J. Rossi, the Joan and Martin Messinger Dean at Eastman shares, “I am excited about welcoming back to Eastman one of our very distinguished graduates, and for her to share with our community her artistry, her teaching, and all that she has learned throughout a remarkable career.”
Nicole Cabell, 2005 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, is an exciting lyric soprano whose career has taken her to the most important opera stages and concert halls in the world. Her many operatic roles include Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata (Royal Opera House Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera), Adina in L’elisir d’amore (Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Chicago, Met, Deutsche Oper Berlin), Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro (Chicago, Grand Théâtre de Genève), Micaela in Carmen (Met, Chicago, Berlin), and Musetta in La Bohème (Teatro Colòn Buenos Aires, Met, Chicago, Covent Garden, Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera). As a concert soloist and recitalist, Nicole has sung recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada. Her recordings include Soprano, an opera recital disc debut for Decca; Silver Rain, songs of Ricky Ian Gordon; Chanson D’Avril; Mademoiselle—Première Audience, Unknown Music of Nadia Boulanger for Delos; and Musetta in La Bohème with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon as well as in La Bohème: The Film.

About Eastman School of Music:
The Eastman School of Music was founded in 1921 by industrialist and philanthropist George Eastman (1854-1932), founder of Eastman Kodak Company. It was the first professional school of the University of Rochester. Mr. Eastman’s dream was that his school would provide a broad education in the liberal arts as well as superb musical training. The current dean is Jamal Rossi, appointed in 2014.
More than 900 students are enrolled in the Collegiate Division of the Eastman School of Music—about 500 undergraduates and 400 graduate students. They come from almost every state, and approximately 23 percent are from other countries.
