Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley will appear in Rochester on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m., performing in concert with the Clinch Mountain Boys in Eastman Theatre.
Often described as “the elder statesman of bluegrass music,” Stanley is renowned for his banjo picking skills and distinctive tenor voice.
Stanley and his late brother Carter first took their original Clinch Mountain Boys on tour in Southwestern Virginia more 50 years ago. In the decades since, Stanley has made more than 150 recordings and logged hundreds of thousands of miles on tour in the United States and internationally.
He won a Grammy Award for his work on the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? In 2006, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence.
The concert is being presented by the Eastman School of Music, with support from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (www.midatlanticarts.org).
