After three rounds of intense judged competition, six finalists were selected from the field of 23 musical virtuosos in the 2008 Eastman Young Artists International Piano Competition. The six will perform a movement of a piano concerto in the final round beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Friday, Aug. 8) in Kilbourn Hall.
Finalists are:
Xue-Sha Hu, 15, of Beijing, China;
Min-Soo Hong, 15, of Seoul, Korea;
Connie Kim-Sheng, 16, of La Crescenta, Calif.;
Peter Klimo, 17, of Northridge, Calif.;
Tie-Dan Yao, 16, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada;
Wan-Ting Zhao, 16, of Beijing, China.
The three top prize winners will be announced following tonight’s final round and will perform two concerts in Kilbourn Hall on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Winners receive cash prizes and scholarships to attend the Eastman School of Music.
Tickets to tonight’s final round of competition and to the Winners Concerts on Saturday are $12 general public, $6 for University of Rochester faculty/staff.
