The Eastman School of Music’s organ department and Pegasus Early Music, a Rochester arts organization that presents an early music concert series, are collaborating on a concert on the Italian Baroque Organ in the Memorial Art Gallery.
“Italians in the Fountain Court” will feature two performances of a program of Italianate chamber music, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, in the Gallery’s Fountain Court. The concerts feature violinist Robert Mealy; Lisa Terry, the viola da gamba; Deborah Fox, lute; and Eastman School of Music Professor William Porter, organ. The program will feature music by 17th century Italian composers, such as Castello and Frescobaldi, as well as works by Buxtehude, Erlebach, and other composers who weren’t Italian but were influenced by them.
Tickets to the concert are $20 general admission; $15 for seniors; and $10 for students. They can be purchased online at pegasusearlymusic.org; at Parkleigh, 215 Park Ave.; by phone, 585) 703-3990; or at the door one hour before the concert.
The Italian Baroque Organ was built around 1770 in central Italy. Restored and installed in 2005 at the Memorial Art Gallery, the instrument is the only one of its kind in North America. The monthly Italian Baroque Organ Showcase concerts feature Eastman School faculty and guest artists.
