Eastman Community Music School (ECMS) will host its annual ‘Springfest” from Monday, May 20 to Sunday, June 2 at the Eastman School of Music, in several concert halls and classrooms across the campus.
“During each schoolyear, ECMS produces an average of three recitals every week,” says Petar Kodzas, the Associate Dean and Director of the Eastman Community Music School. “Our performance activities reach a ‘grand finale’ during Springfest, when all of our programs showcase their work and talent in the span of a couple of weeks.” Kodzas continues, “Performances play an essential part in the life-cycle of musical work: composers write music, musicians learn and play it, and in a performance the audience listens! We invite you to honor the composers and performers for their hard work, and to make music come alive by playing your part as a listener.”
Each year the Eastman Community Music School showcases the talent and musical dedication of its students during an annual celebration of the warm weather and the end of the academic year. With performances almost every day in late May, Springfest features ensembles and students ranging in age from elementary school to adults performing in venues across the Eastman School of Music campus. On any day of Springfest you can hear a wide array of music styles and ensembles from intimate solo performances in Hatch Recital Hall, to swinging Nights of Jazz in Kilbourn Hall, and full orchestral and wind ensembles in Eastman Theatre’s Kodak Hall.
All performances are free and open to the public.
The Eastman Community Music School has been an integral part of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and the Rochester community, since its opening in 1921. For a full list of Springfest performances please visit: https://www.esm.rochester.edu/community/springfest
