A special tribute concert will be held on Wednesday July 26 at Kilbourn Hall celebrating the life and contributions of Anastasia Jempelis (1925-2005). Jempelis was part of the Eastman community for more than six decades, first as a gifted student and later as a teacher. An accomplished violinist at a young age, Jempelis was a teacher and passionate advocate of the Suzuki method. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as a Performer’s Certificate from Eastman in the late 40s, and continued to teach through the Eastman Community Music School until shortly before her death.
The program will include a short set by children playing Suzuki violin repertoire, violin solos and a string orchestra. The players will include former students and colleagues of Jempelis.
